At Kathryn’s Holistic Haven I want you to feel comfortable and informed about your reflexology journey. Below, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about reflexology and what to expect from a session.
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a holistic therapy that involves applying gentle pressure to specific reflex points on the feet, hands, or face. These points correspond to different organs and systems in the body, helping to promote relaxation, relieve tension and support overall wellbeing.
How does reflexology work?
By stimulating these reflex points, reflexology encourages the body’s natural healing process and helps restore balance. It is a deeply relaxing therapy that can benefit both the mind and body.
What can reflexology help with?
Reflexology can help to:
Does reflexology hurt?
Each reflexologist has their own unique approach and I take a gentle, soothing approach, blending various techniques and adapting to your individual needs, creating a deeply effective and relaxing experience. While some reflex points may feel tender or sensitive, my treatments are not meant to cause pain. If at any point you experience discomfort or pain, please let me know immediately – your comfort is my top priority.
Can you diagnose health conditions?
As a professional reflexologist, I am not qualified to diagnose or treat medical conditions. While certain reflex points may feel congested or tender, this doesn’t always indicate a physical issue – it may reflect an emotional imbalance instead. I do not diagnose or directly heal; rather, reflexology supports your body’s own natural healing process.
Reflexology is a complementary therapy and is not intended as a substitute for medical treatment or to replace proper diagnoses and/or treatment by a qualified medical practitioner. Please seek medical advice if you are at all worried about any condition or ailment.
How should I prepare for my session?
There’s nothing special you need to do – just wear comfortable clothing and be ready to relax. It’s best to avoid a heavy meal or caffeine right before your appointment.
What should I expect from my reflexology treatment?
When you arrive for your treatment take a moment to settle into the calming atmosphere of the room. We’ll then go over your previously filled in consultation form and discuss what you hope to achieve from your reflexology session, with time for any questions you may have.
You remain fully clothed, I’ll just need access to your feet and ankles, and sometimes your calves. I will help you get comfy on my treatment couch, supported with pillows and bolsters, with the option of a cosy heated blanket and a fragranced weighted eye pillow to aid relaxation.
You’ll then relax while I apply gentle pressure to reflex points on your feet, hands, or face. This is your time, so if you want to fall asleep or talk and ask me questions please feel free to do whatever makes you comfortable.
Once I have completed your treatment I will leave the room for a few minutes to allow you a short relaxation time, you will remain on the couch for this.
After this I will return to the room and will let you know your treatment is over.
You can then take your time getting up and seated again. I will have a glass of water ready for you and we can have a chat through my findings and I will offer to book another appointment for you.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no definitive answer to this question as this depends on your individual needs. Some clients feel the benefits after just one session, while others choose regular treatments for ongoing support. I can discuss a tailored approach during your visit.
Block booking discount packages are available.
Can anyone have reflexology?
Reflexology is generally safe for most people, but there are some conditions where it may not be suitable. If you have any concerns, please reach out before booking.
Reflexology is not recommended for:
Informed written consent must be provided by a parent or legal guardian for any client under the age of 16 having any reflexology treatments.
What should I do after my session?
After your session you should hopefully feel deeply relaxed, some people can experience subtle changes as their body adjusts. To support your wellbeing, I recommend drinking plenty of water, listening to your body and taking time to enjoy the sense of calm.
Can I change or cancel an appointment?
I understand that unforeseen circumstances arise and appointments may need to be rescheduled. However, I kindly ask for 48 hrs notice if you are unable to attend your appointment.
If you arrive late, I will do my best to accommodate your full appointment time. However, if this is not possible, the treatment will be shortened accordingly and the full fee will still apply.
